What is Open Balkan?

Open Balkan is a regional initiative created by North Macedonia, Serbia, and Albania dedicated to providing conditions for practicing the four European freedoms for as many citizens and companies in the Balkans as possible. Open Balkan is a booster of regional cooperation and connectivity when it comes to the free movement of people, capital, goods, and services.

Currently, the three countries (North Macedonia, Albania, and Serbia) lead and develop the initiative, which follows an open-door policy, especially for other Western Balkan countries such as Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo, as well as for other countries in the region – EU members.

We connect for the development of our economies, for a common regional and unified market without restrictions, barriers, or borders, and for its long-term development that will bring a better life for all citizens.

It is about integration instead of disintegration, about open rather than closed borders, about freedom instead of limited movement, about facilitation instead of complication of procedures, about cooperation instead of hostility, about progress instead of regression.

We connect with a clear, open, and public intention for our people to immediately feel the benefits of what we offer. We expect that benefit to soon be felt in the household budgets of millions of families, in the quality of life of millions of citizens.

From a political perspective, Open Balkan is aimed at accelerating the European integration of Western Balkan countries and contributing to each of the countries becoming a member of the European Union as soon as possible.
